Attitudes toward this issue do not vary much by generation—with one exception. Most Millennials agree with the Supreme Court’s decision. Millennials are also the ones most likely to believe in evolution. When asked whether it is true or false that human beings developed from earlier species of animals, 58 percent of Millennials say it is true.

That is because most Americans disagree that traditional sex roles—where men go to work and women stay home—are best. More than three out of four Millennials disagree that traditional sex roles are best versus two out of three Gen Xers and Boomers, 53 percent of the Swing generation, and just 34 percent of the World War II generation. Tolerance of premarital sex is also lower in the older age groups. The Millennial generation is the only one in which the majority says premarital sex is not wrong at all.
